Working at the microscope

Research Topics

Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) has a wide range of symptoms and associated conditions. EB is not just a skin disease, but has far-reaching effects on the entire body. The top-tier research team at the EB RI is therefore working on a wide range of therapeutic approaches.

Due to the complex clinical features of EB, research is focused on various key areas. These include gene therapy approaches, methods for the detection and treatment of associated conditions such as chronic inflammation and skin cancer, as well as the development of new methods and models for the efficient testing of the safety and efficacy of new therapeutic options prior to clinical application. In addition, the focus is on building up a collection of biological patient samples, as target-oriented research can only be carried out with relevant resources.
Cooperation and collaboration with other research institutions and clinics and the exchange of new research results are also essential.
