Centre of Expertise for Rare Diseases

Following successful certification by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Health in 2017, the EB House Austria was designated as the first “Centre of Expertise for Rare Diseases” in Austria.

Conceived and founded by DEBRA Austria and operated by the Salzburg University Clinic for Dermatology, the EB House Austria has already gained an excellent reputation as a specialised clinic far beyond the borders of Austria – and our outstanding achievements in the treatment of “butterfly children” have now been rewarded with state-certified recognition.

“Our intensive efforts have been recognised with the designation of the EB House as a Centre of Expertise,” says Chairman Dr Rainer Riedl, who was delighted with the special award.

In addition to this national designation, the EB House Austria is now also part of the European Reference Network for Rare Skin Diseases.

For the first time in Europe, highly-specialised Centres of Expertise will be linked to form an international network (European Reference Network). Around 30 million Europeans are afflicted by rare diseases – and their access to competent medical care must be facilitated. The development of new drugs and therapies will also provide a positive impetus for research activities.
