Research statement

I am interested in the development of an immunotherapy against cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) which is very aggressive and arises at a higher frequency in recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) patients. Currently, surgery over a wide area represents the primary treatment option due to the metastasizing nature of the tumor.
We believe that cancer immunotherapy represents a promising adjuvant therapy to control or even eliminate RDEB cSCC and therefore, we want to take advantage of the preexisting immune system to fight cancer.
